About the Authors
Oliver "Red" Allen
Oliver 'Red' Allen left college to join the Army Air Corps in 1941,hoping to fulfill his dream of flying. Instead, through early events in World War II, hewound up in the hands of the Japanese as a prisoner of war, surviving three and a half years on Bataan and in Manchuria. He later became a school teacher.

After 30 years of teaching, he retired because of ill health due primarily to his war experiences.

Because he wanted his sons, Tim and Danny, to know the full story of his part in the war and of his captivity, he began putting his experiences on tapes. This was done over a period of many months, as the telling of these events was tantamount to living them again. His wife later transcribed the tapes.
Mildred Allen
Mildred Allen had hoped for a career in journalism. She had been editor of her college newspaper and served as a Past National Editor of American Ex-Prisoners of War Bulletin. Instead of following a journalism career, in 1946 she became an elementary school teacher at age 19. Toward the end of her career she taught dyslexic children. After 43 years of teaching, she created puzzles in mathematics for a major crossword puzzle magazine.

She is the author of a short story, The Red Shoes, and three soon-to-be-published books: The Aeries, Come Home My Children and Job and Me and Other Fools. She is currently working on a fourth book.
"Abandoned on Bataan: One Man's Story of Survival" is available in two versions: hardcover (ISBN 0-9713184-0-9) and paperback (0-9713184-1-7).
